We are proud to have provided Building Regulations for Cavaleri Partnership for the new extra care facility in the centre of St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
Eden Place was developed by Cavaleri Partnership for Luminus Group in response to the government policy for the provision of a new generation of extra-care housing to support the ageing population. Its strategy recognises that many older people choose to move home to enable them to remain independent, to access required support and care, while releasing equity.
This new architectural solution for independent living was designed to meet the brief for replacement of a 55-bedsit care home with a new extra care facility. The site was redeveloped to address several challenges and accommodate existing structures, including listed buildings, local school and residential houses adjacent to the site, as well as mature trees in close proximity to the new building.
The design of the building was developed to preserve the natural surroundings and maximise green areas to provide a protective, inspiring and empowering environment for the wellbeing of the residents. The facilities offer privacy and at the same time promote social interaction with other residents and the wider community. The emphasis is on comfort, care and non-intrusive support.
This community 3 storey building includes 55 one and two bedroom apartments and benefits from continuous circulation, natural light and ventilation. It offers a hairdresser, library, physiotherapy rooms, mobility scooter park, laundry; and assisted bathrooms and WCs. There are spacious internal and external seating areas, dining room with access to external patio and communal gardens, a variety of comfortable meeting rooms, as well as visitor and staff accommodation.
